a Wedding Photographer’s view

I’m delighted to say that I have actually stayed at Broadoaks Country House as a Guest and dined in their Michelin recommended restaurant too. Not only are all the staff delightful and friendly but my room was of exceptional quality as was the food. I’ve had the pleasure of staying in many of London & Edinburgh’s finest hotels and dined at many of their finest restaurants too, and I’m happy to say that my Broadoaks’ experience is of equal measure

Broadoaks benefits enormously from being one of the Lakes’ smaller venues as a hotel and this makes for an excellent Wedding venue too; being smaller adds a real air of intimacy and familiarity that most larger venues lack. The décor & detailing has an obvious personal touch rather than some bland corporate style, making it feel ‘homely’

From a Lake District Wedding Photographer’s point of view, Broadoaks Weddings offers a range of photography options full of wonderful details. From the beautiful flat grassed lawn Licensed for outdoor Weddings and perfect for Group photos (and doubling as a helipad!), to the rustic archway with sky views. A wonderful walkway through hedges & flowers takes you to the roadway entrance where a winding driveway makes for a wonderful ‘walk’ feature too returning you to the lovely fountain outside Reception

There’s the magnificent oak with its gnarled trunk and twisted roots that all add interesting backgrounds, and its huge canopy affords shelter from the harshest Sun or drop of rain; the bench beneath and the fun of the swing hanging from its branches are character details every Bride & Groom should be including in the personal time shoot

Smaller venues with such a variety of photo opportunities make for a photographer’s dream venue, as its possible to have a wide range of types of photos all taken within a short walk and in as little as 20-30 minutes; allowing me to shoot all the wow & intimate images you’ll love, without taking you away from you guests & party for too long

For those more adventurous Bride & Grooms and for whom their Lake District Wedding Photography is especially important, we’re only 5-15 mins or so from lakeside views or stunning mountain vistas; but you might need to bring your boots & wellies too!

I’m such a fan of Broadoaks that I have a couple of specific BROADOAKS SPECIAL OFFER for Broadoaks Wedding Photography, CONTACT ME for details

Some interesting information

Broadoaks Country House was built in 1836 as a summer house for a wealthy military gent, and it was one of the first houses in the Windermere area to receive electricity! This was initially supplied by the Troutbeck Hydro-electric Company who purchased the land for the rights to draw water from the beck below; remnants of their original building can still be seen

In 1898 Broadoaks was bought by Dr Hodges & his wife who, as lovers of classical music, added the Music Room in 1905. The Baby Grand Bechstein piano they had commissioned for this room still sits there today

Broadoaks became Broadoaks Country House Hotel in 1989, its current owner Tracey Robinson fell in love with Broadoaks and purchased it in October 2007. With her unrelenting passion she hopes to make this once beautiful old home into one of The Lakes’ finest and most chic Country House Hotels

Broadoaks has 7 acres of gardens and the outdoor lawn is licensed for Weddings too. The main house has 20 beautiful rooms each with its own personality, and the Michelin recommended restaurant can cater for up to 110 Guests at your Wedding Breakfast

In England, each area within a property where a Wedding ceremony takes place must have its own Wedding License; Broadoaks has 5 Licensed areas:

  • Outside lawn – max capacity 110
  • The Music Room – max capacity 40
  • Oaks Restaurant – max capacity 60
  • The Orangery – max capacity 70
  • Oaks restaurant & Orangery – max capacity 110

There are a host of Wedding Packages available including both exclusive and non-exclusive use; from the most intimate of Weddings where members of the Broadoaks’ events team will act as your Witnesses, to the most spectacular 3-day exclusive New Year’s Eve event with a midnight super of Haggis, Neeps & Tatties
